It shouldn’t as there is a wildcard in there to handle all urls. You could post Tye’s suggestion t your host and ask them why it does not work as it is definitely correct.

One thing. In admin>Preferences do you have the site url as www.wanderingitaly.com οr wanderingitaly.com?

Actually, I just changed the preferences to www yesterday, and that seems to have worked in most cases. I can still enter the blog as wanderingitaly.com/blog, but all the links from there are www so I might leave it at that for now.
