I made a start at fixing it here (look in packages) but I wasn’t able to to fix everything. It works/worked in its basic functionality but on some browsers, the modal window was fussy when you did an action within the modal window and then went back. It’s not a huge deal, you just have to start over. In other browsers it was fine. Note: it doesn’t include trenc’s changes because it was before then.
My feeling is that this plugin needs a general overhaul and perhaps being split into two: a) an image chooser and b) an image uploader, each with their own properly coded functionality rather than the images panel in a model window.

I agree. Thank you for making the update, it kind of works. Only on current articles but not new ones.
