Thanks Els, but I don’t have any maintenance plugins activated, and I just uninstalled rvm_maintenance, which had been deactivated anyway, just to be sure.

It turns out this was related to tru_tags 3.5 using the deprecated split() function. Although it was very confusing that this caused the clean-url test to fail, which in turn gave me an error message about the deprecated split() function in txplib_misc.php (when the split() function actually didn’t occur in that file).
