Seems like there’s been a change in the meantime, the quoted link just shows a redirect, nothing that should serve as an example in my current state of mind ;)

Oops sorry, forgot to tell that I’ve finished them in the meantime ;) The other languages only had one or two translated tag pages, so I think I’ve had them all by now. There were a lot of Taiwanese pages to move, and of course I can’t read them, so they might be totally outdated… Still, they’re in place now in case someone wants to update them.

What still needs to be done is go through the tag pages and where necessary add/edit the links to their translations. I haven’t yet thought of a structured way to do that though.

Anyway, this step is necessary for opening a new tag reference in another language, as far as I understand.

To create a new Tag Reference page for another language (for example German):

  1. Add [[category:Tag Referenz]] to the bottom of a German tag page (at the moment there is only title).
  2. Clicking on the red link that now appears on that page will let you create the new category page: copy the source of the English Tag Reference to the new page and adapt it.
  3. Add [[de:category:Tag Referenz]] at the bottom of the Tag Reference pages in all other languages.
  4. Add [[category:Tag Referenz]] to each newly created German tag page and it will automatically be added to the German Tag Reference page.

Edit: of course I don’t know if ‘Tag Referenz’ is the right translation, it’s just an example ;)

Re: [wiki] Adding new translation to article txp:hide

I just realized there is a downside to using page titles like title_(de): you can’t link to those pages from here, Textile won’t process the closing )… Example:

"title (de)":http://textbook.textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=title_(de)

returns title

Now what…?

To add a link should be no problem with an example page I’m sure to find. What is to be done when editing links, and how would I detect those pages?

I haven’t yet thought of a structured way to do that though.

Should we take an alphabetical approach and post/mail the last page we edited?

I’ve finished them in the meantime

Gosh! Yes! When I was looking for a way to find a system to co-operate I saw you’ve edited several hundreds of pages the last days. You really can leave some of the work, I’m not that fast, that’s part of my personality, but I’m willing to volunteer my time.

Umm, … well … SQL.

SQLedgehammer these parentheses away :)

To add a link should be no problem with an example page I’m sure to find. What is to be done when editing links,

Example page: article. The links on this page are updated. When you look at the source you see this block:

<!-- Important links...Keep at bottom -->
[[category:Tag Reference]] [[category:Article Tags]]
[[es:article (es)]]
[[fr:article (fr)]]
[[hu:article (hu)]]
[[zh-tw:article (zh-tw)]]

The category links are displayed at the bottom of the tag page, and determine to which category/ies – in this example ‘Tag Reference’ and ‘Article Tags’ – this particular tag page belongs (and on which category page(s) it will be linked to).
The language links are displayed in the right column of the tag page. They should look like the above example, and link to existing pages of course.
Most tag pages still contain links in the old format, like [[hu:Txp:tag_name /]] or [[zh-tw:txp:tag_name /]]. They should be changed into [[hu:tag_name (hu)]], [[zh-tw:tag_name (zh-tw)]] etcetera.

and how would I detect those pages?

You can either visit all pages one by one and check the links…;) or maybe visit the old (redirected) pages (like for instance Zh-tw/txp:article_/), this will redirect to the new page but you can follow the link to ‘redirected from’, and from there click ‘what links here’ (bottom menu, under ‘Toolbox’). That will show you which pages still contain a link to the outdated page.
Both methods are time-consuming, and since we don’t even know if the Taiwanese pages are up to date or used much, I guess we could forget about those for the moment and focus on the other languages.

Most important in my opinion is that all translated tag pages have working links to their English equivalent.

Oh and Uli, apologies, I’ll leave the rest for you :) Thank you!
