Re: [request] iPhone & Txp: a killer application

A contest with an iPhone (paid by TXP community with a 5 bucks fee/person) like prize for the first one writing a great TxPhone plugin could help…

Good job, Steve ;)

Unfortunately this project is temporarily on hold as we are simply too busy, this isn’t as simple as a specific CSS for the iPhone, it’s essentially re-writing a lot of code from the core and plugging into your existing TxP installation.

We really want to complete this project but we can’t put an estimated date on it I’m afraid, sorry.

Fair enough. After having an iPhone for a few weeks I think there’s not such a great benefit to editing a textpattern site with an iPhone anyway.

Re: [request] iPhone & Txp: a killer application

I’d love to see a dedicated “front end” for the iPhone, but I understand the demands of time, and from what little checking I’ve done, the default admin in Mobile Safari is far from “broken,” just not optimized.

And that tiny keyboard (plus the lack of copy/paste) isn’t going to make it much fun, regardless of interface.

Re: [request] iPhone & Txp: a killer application

Hey guys, my first post here. Just want to let you guys know that there’s now an iPhone app called iBlogger which is based on the Ecto blog client. I’ve just installed it on my iPhone, I can now manage all my blog post via iBlogger’s Movable Type API setting. I do encounter some problem when I try to include an image which was meant to be uploaded to the database. I got the “metaWeblog.newMediaObject” error. Which I suspect is the limitation of the XML RPC support on Textpattern. Also some problem with the timezone setting (I am in the UK). Apart from that, I do think iBlogger is looking like a real solid blog writer. Do bear in mind that it is a paid application. £5.99.

iBlogger won´t work for me… seems like it doesn´t find my acces url… should that be the /textpattern directory?

Re: [request] iPhone & Txp: a killer application

I use my iPod Touch (basically the iPhone without the phone function) to edit my Textpattern sites, just with the built in browser. Would I do it often? No. It certainly makes more sense to use my laptop to do any real work, but I have done quick posts with the iPod Touch, and it works as is. A dedicated app would be nicer, but the tiny screen and hunt and peck typing will always make this a less than ideal posting platform.

Re: [request] iPhone & Txp: a killer application

I was thinking, that with the advent of admin-side themeing in the new 4.2.0 release that one could create an iPhone admin theme.

This would include:

I think that’s it, does anyone think I’ve missed anything? More importantly, can it be done? I’m really referring to the addition of <head> tag code.

BTW, I will happily create this if it can be done.

Cheers

Re: [request] iPhone & Txp: a killer application

For those still stuck with iBlogger, you should first enable XML-RPC in the advanced preferences and then use these details when setting up an ‘Other MovableType’ site in iBlogger:

  • URL: Your site’s URL i.e. http://jquerystyle.com
  • Username & Password: Self explanatory
  • Access URL: Your site’s URL + /rpc/ , http://jquerystyle.com/rpc/

I found this info out on the Textpattern site

Hope that helps.
