Re: Upgraded to 4.0.6, now all my article titles don't show up

AHA!!!! I FIXED IT! Thank you ruud—your suggestion led me to notice something. My custom fields are labeled to be used for my movie & book reviews (even though I don’t do anything with it, I figured I might in the future so I put them there.) My custom fields are things like Year, Author, etc… and one of the custom fields is “Title”. Well, some of the movies I’d forgotten to fill the Title field in, and those were the ones that didn’t show a title. Then I tried adding it and it showed up. So then I added a title to a non-movie title in the custom field, and it worked. So I went and renamed my custom field to something other than Title (“eltiT”, because I’m a dork) and POOF all the titles came back!

So somehow my custom field “Title” was trumping the actual title field. Not sure if that is a bug or what, but that’s what was happening!

does a happy dance

txp:custom_field

Custom names may include letters (uppercase or lowercase), numbers and under_scores, but no spaces or other special characters. There are certain names reserved by Textpattern, which should not be used to name custom fields. They include: thisid, posted, annotate, comments_invite, authorid, title, url_title, category1, category2, section, keywords, article_image, comments_count, body, excerpt.

Intersting though that earlier Txp versions didn’t seem to mind.

Wonder why it always worked before?

I’m guessing, but perhaps it’s because older versions were case sensitive? Since 4.0.something-greater-than-4(ish) all custom fields are internally converted to lower case and are thus more likely to clash with the built-in variables if you accidentally name them the same.

/me stabs in the dark.

That sounds plausible. Well I’m so relieved that we figured this out! I was going to be so bummed out if I had to downgrade again :(
