Well, on the other hand I’m banging my head against TXP lack of content structure/tagging/hierarchicallity/WhateverYouWantToCallIt; and have been for 2 and half year.
So, really, it depend on what people want to achieve.

I totally agree, that’s why it’s best for each individual person to evaluate their needs and the available software at hand.

I think it really depends on the type of site you plan to build. I found out the hard way that TXP is really not suited well for community types of sites. I did get it to work though!
I think that Drupal is a royal pain to learn, but once you do, it really is a great CMS. It is a little overkill for most everything I do, which is why I chose to stay with TXP.

Re: textpattern vs drupal
In my experience Drupal is a bear to wrap your mind around and understand it, while TextPattern makes sense rather quickly. Most of my clients are just looking for a basic CMS so they can edit the site themselves, and TextPattern wins hands-down for this. For large, complex projects I think Drupal is a better choice. But I would say don’t go to Drupal until you have to… TextPattern is a really nice piece of work. Also, in my experience, the TextPattern community is much more responsive in the forums. With Drupal, most of the time you’ll find the exact question you have in the Drupal Q&A area (getting there from a Google search) only to find that no one has responded to the question. I’d say about 100% of the questions I’ve had about Drupal have shown up there, with about 80% of them having gone unanswered. With TextPattern, I would say I’ve had nearly a 100% response rate to my questions, or questions I’ve search Google for.

Meanwhile, elsewhere:
Which illustrates your point fairly well, imho.

I’ve always pictured textpattern as an orchid and drupal as a petunia, which illustrates my apathy toward NASCAR.

Re: textpattern vs drupal
i’m looking into TXP after spending a long time trying to figure out drupal. drupal is not for a casual blogger in my opinion, you have to envision a pretty complex site to warrant using that CMS. the main reason i say this is because even if you can figure out your site’s core structure you have a whole other set of tasks ahead for theming the site. that’s why a lot of drupal sites dont look so hot unfortunately.
so can TXP create a community site where people are allowed to have profiles and upload content to the site? for this sort of task i am going to tough it out with drupal but if people are doing it with textpattern i’d be willing to look at this CMS a little closer

Re: textpattern vs drupal
Not really, not right now. This kind of community site isn’t TXP forte. It may be done, depending on what you cant exactly, but it’s not aim at this, it lack a lot of things in this area.
