Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

This looks great. Is there a way to “easily” revert back to a previous setup (as in go back to the old tables)?

Thanks

Excellent work. Do you have a tag for displaying related articles based on your new category field, like related_article txp tag? It would be perfect!

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

As I said in your blog: Great work! Especially the ran_txp_tags plugin slows down when working on a big TXP site. Maybe this works better with your plug-in.

But:
Is there any way to convert all the tags inserted into the Custom1 field (for the ran_txp_tags plugin) to the new textpattern_category table (I do not know too much about SQL commands)?

txp at irox.de since spring 2004 (g1.17) & at roxomatic since 2006.

jmuspratt – What’s your Site URL set to?

js – Sorry, nothing like this in the works for links.

blumie – There’s nothing to revert really. Nothing is removed from the existing categories.

Zanza – I thought about that but haven’t done it yet.

Kossatch – There’s no easy way I can think of assuming you have more than one tag in that custom field. It would probably take some custom PHP + SQL to get the job done.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

Rob —

My Site URL is set to jamesmuspratt.com/widescreen/demo, and I actually have been using <txp:site_url /> to make the template more portable (e.g. it’s the “current” nav link at top left). So it seems to work fine.

For some reason messy URLs seem to work in outputting the articles, but they’re clearly using the old category tables: see the messy version of canada. (I’m sure because “Statue” is the only article I left an old category on — for comparison all three articles are tagged with “canada” using your plugin, so all three should show up once the clean canada tag starts working.)

Is it possible I have to uncomment one of the .htaccess lines in the root to get clean category links to work?

Your livesearch is awesome, by the way. Still working on integrating that.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

OK I have finally had a chance to istall this and at the risk of sounding incredibly dull…. how am I supposed to assign cats to the actual article? I have the select box visible with all of the cats. Now what? Am I supposed to be using custom fields for my cat selections? And copy/paste to use them? It seems as if I am missing something fundamental here.

Thanks!
Sorry if I’m slow on this, but it seems as if I’m missing some instructions :)

I think you just ctrl-click multiples of the categories that appear in the new selection box on the write screen.

I’ve only just started to play with this, but it looks excellent…

Thats what I inferred, but the crtl clicking works for selection, however I do not see where it is actually “tagging” anything. If you come back to the article later there is no indication that any cat has actually been assigned.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

I’m guessing at this point that like ran_tags I need a custom field for the cat tags? I copy/paste my cats into the custom field….do I need only 1 custom field or one for each cat?

I haven’t played further with it Soulship, but I do know that custom fields are not required, because the plugin creates and uses it’s own table structure – see the help section of the plugin.

I’m sure Rob (or someone) will chime in with the answer…

Soulship: The category choice should be “selected/highlighted” in the list. If you’ve transferred articles, you might have to “reselect” the category.

For me the selection is all: no need to indicate what categories are selected in other places than the select box. It is the input and output interface at the same time. I admit that at first I was having doubts too, but that is. If you select with ctrl + click multiple categories, when you come back to the article, the categories you’ve choosen should be still selected with a different colour. If not, well, it’s not working :). But this shouldn’t be the case.

To output in article/list pages, you have to use one of the tags the plugin introduce.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

OK I needed to uninstall and reinstall?? For some reason the tables did not seem to get installed the first time. I don’t know what happened maybe a txd thing who knows at any rate it is working now and I did infer correctly as Zanza and Niel have pointed out [crtl] click is the way to go. Once the tables are actually in place it does correctly store the information.

Thanks folks off to bomb another thread now ;)

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

Call me a numb-skull, but where articles categories listed. I’m using this so that I can assign more than one category for a user’s articles, but a when a user views the “Articles” tab, they cannot browse by Category, because it still says Cat 1 and Cat 2, and nothing is filled in. Am I mis-using this plugin?

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_unlimited_categories - Unltd. Article Categories

Also, when I use the txp:article_custom category=”“ I get nothing returned. Can I only use the rss tags to list these multiple categories?
