How would I likely fare if I utilize some native “if-section” tags? It seems like I could divide the “Exhibitions” articles into categories and use “if_section” limiters to output the articles in the “past exhibition” categories upon selecting the “past exhibitions” link in the sidebar…
I think that the tag you are looking for is txp:if_category but I’m not sure.
I have never worked with categories, because I cant make my head about thinking in categories…
But you will find useful information in the TXP Manual.
txp:if_section is more for outputting different content in different sections but I dont think it will help you to filter articles inside a section.
1) Main horizontal navigation with “sticky”sections dropping down via “Suckerfish” or another method.
2) Having the “live” sections appear in the right sidebar upon selecting the desired dropdown.
I think you are a bit confused here. There is no such thing as sticky or live sections. Live or sticky are the articles.
Sorry if I cannot be a bit more helpful… I’m sure you will find the way!
BTW: nested sections are planned for future txp versions.

I meant “sticky” and “live” articles…sorry for the confusion. The solution is here. I just have to try different things and find what works. I’ll certainly let you know what solution I come up with. Categories have confused me too, but as with everything else in Txp, once you get the hang of it, it is a real revelation. This stuff is addictive. Lots of real potential. Nested sections will only make things that much easier and nicer.

I wouldnt use sticky and live articles for navigational purposes (well, this tutorial is a bit about that, but in a different approach: “sticky” articles are used as “subsections” that, in fact, have real content).
I know that you, by using sections and categories will have… a revelation…
