Re: Where's my site gone? Index.php vanished

Well I hesitate to suggest this but there is a plug-in which should be able to convert messy to clean. Read the whole thread. Thing is I’ve never used it and I’m no expert with Regex. By all means try it out but if you have problems you will need to post them to that thread.

Stuart – I’ll give that a try…sounds like something to keep me out of trouble! :)

Again – thanks for your help…you and Mary.
As I’m a complete newbie with TXP and not shy of asking for help…expect to see me post again at some point!
Of course i’ll check through the previous threads first…hunting the answer…but on this occasion – i just didn’t find anything that matched.

Cheers.

Matt

(That other thread about the plug-in is HUGE! What’s the latest version of that?)

It should still be the top link. It will most likely have been updated when he updates the plug-in.

Now you’re going to tell me that the page is empty but it isn’t. Go to “edit” and “select all” then “edit” again and select “copy” then go to your plug-ins page and paste into the little box at the top. Click the button and you will see another page with all the code in it. Scroll to the bottom and click on “Install”. This takes you back to the first page and you will see the plug-in details. On the right click on the word “No” to activate it then click on help for instructions.

Okay…did all that….(You’re instructions were easier than installing TXP!)….hmm – that plugin is a beast of code! Okay…I’ll go through the help instructiosn for that later…and if I run into probs – I’ll review that thread or ask on there.

Cheers for all your help Stuart. :)

Re: Where's my site gone? Index.php vanished

I asked further about if I could edit them using ftp…there only answer was ‘no’. So then I asked – well, does that mean I can only ask the helpdesk to edit or delete these files then? There answer was yes.

You can edit the file on your PC, and upload the changed version.

Regarding the possibility of getting clean URLs to work: 95% of the time, the .htaccess that comes with Textpattern works out of the box. On servers where it doesn’t work, the necessary changes are highly specific to that server environment and configuration. Basically: experiment and read up on mod_rewrite until you find something that works. You could start with some of the suggestions in this thread.

If that sounds like too much work, use messy URLs.

Re: Where's my site gone? Index.php vanished

Cheers Zem.

“You can edit the file on your PC, and upload the changed version.” ….Yeah – I’d been doing this before I posted to the thread (based on something from a different thread). But when that wasn’t working for me…then I knew I needed to ask for further advice.

I haven’t tried the plugin that Stuart suggested yet…so I’d do that first in any case. If that doesn’t work – then I’ll have to just live with messy URLs.

Thanks.
