Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] dca_random_image: Random Image from a Directory
Does anyone know if there is a way to adapt this so that it shows several images in the random folder at a once? Like, say 3 at a time ?
Thanks!

That sometimes calls the same image, though, so there are doubles, could potentially be triples I suppose.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] dca_random_image: Random Image from a Directory
Hi,
love the plugin but it gives me a validation error:
required attribute “alt” not specified
What can I do about that?

Hmm. Not much, since the plugin can’t magically know the alt text for every image in a directory. So, either leave the alt text as “picture” or something similar, or just leave it out, as Dean has done with the plugin.
But, wait! There’s a solution! Dan Benjamin recently published an article on ALA which is able to output the alt text for every image (everything has to be specified beforehand). However, it won’t grab anything from a directory— you have to make a list of images, with location, filename, alt text, etc. in an ini file.

Edit: Yes, leaving out the alt is invalid, but leaving it in and having the same alt for every photo is also accessibilty suicide. Ah, well…

Leaving it out means getting a validation error. When I look at the source, ‘width’ and ‘height’ are specified, so I gather it must be possible to add alt=”“. I just don’t know where to do that, looking at the plugin makes me think this function is somewhere hardcoded and I don’t know enough about php to find it.
The ALA article looks to me a too drastic remedy for my small problem.
So if someone can tell me how to add the alt=”“ I’ll be very happy.
EDIT: Never mind, I found where to add it. It was rather stupid to overlook that. Thanks anyway!

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] dca_random_image: Random Image from a Directory
Wanted to put up a random image on a couple of my sites and came across this plugin. Due to it’s age, I wondered if it would work on Textpattern 4.0.4, but it worked fine.
I created a subdirectory off the images folder and threw some thumbnailed images in there, adjusted the plugin to look into this new directory and also added a class=”“ to it’s img tag output.
Now I have a random image in my sidebar that links to my gallery, thanks Dean :)

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] dca_random_image: Random Image from a Directory
I’ve tested three or four random image plugins, this is the first one that really works, though the zipped file seems to be more than three years old.
Thanks Dean for writing this one! And thanks Mary for mentioning it in another randimg thread.
