Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

Great. Although I had such fun DOM gymnastics happening. Hey, more time for wine.

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

Thanks Dean! I wanted to avoid having to re-do the hack after updates if possible.

Jeremie = what was the problem?

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

So why isn’t there any mention of Rob’s creation, Dean? Not trying to take credit for someone else’s work are you?

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

i was also quite surprised not to see rob’s name/rss_quikpik referenced at least in the changeset notes. of course we all recognize it…the quikpik’s been kind of a staple add-on admin feature for a while.. but still..

Man. Not enough coffee today, or too much? I understand that plug-in authors would welcome some credit, but the line I’ve quoted seems way over the snark line. Especially for someone who doesn’t even appear to have a “powered by Textpattern” link on their home page.

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

reid – it’s a question, no snark to it. and as for a “powered by textpattern” button or link, my “about” section has a link to textpattern, and i’ve repeated written about the application, both pros and cons.

i’m sorry i’m not a textpattern fanboy.

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

Your nav dropdown, Dean. It’s a direct copy of Rob’s QuikPik plugin that’s been around since RC3 last November. It’s even more of a copy now that you put it in the top bar instead of below everything. I think it only right that you at least mention his original creation somewhere.

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

That would be a copy if Dean took some code out of it (is this the case?) – in fact, he would have to keep the copyright in that case – or at least take strong inspiration from it.

But you know, there are some 67000 post in the TXP forum, I seriously doubt Dean, or Alex, or Pedro, or Sencer, read them all. That’s a luxury we leisure geek have, these man spare no time, no tears, no blood to code for the glory of the … need a new pill

More seriously, its not because the idea is similar that it’s a plagia.

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

First, notice the similarities.

Second, it’s been around for 9 months now. Busy or not, I’d think someone on the development team would notice a popular plugin after that amount of time. Hell, even Zem has a link on his site to Rob’s site. Obviously it’s not some hidden little plugin that no one cared about or used.

You may not have taken code, Dean, but I find it hard to believe that such a close development wasn’t at least partially inspired by Rob’s code. At the very least, he deserves recognition for creating the system in the first place.

Re: Admin plugin request: nav dropdown to header

What part of ‘Hadn’t heard of it’ are you not getting? Never saw it, never used it, not even remotely ‘at least partially inspired’ by it. Sorry. And once again, since the accusation apparently still stands, shove it.
