Re: 4.6 public theme - alpha2 released for testing
Phil quick question.
The 4.5.7 default has a yellow menu background, while the 4.6 default is grey.
Is the grey look the way forward?

Ok, grey it is.
I mentioned in another thread that the front end grey look got me thinking about HIVE – making it look all Windows 10 like, the flat look, as opposed to the gradient look on widgets, column headings, etc.

Hive in 4.6 has gradients pared back and flatter than they were in 4.5. I’m fairly happy with that look. Flat UI has it’s pros and it’s cons – I prefer to follow Apple’s and Google’s HIG in that sense than Microsoft’s.

Well, I take it you’re on a Mac, so you gravitate towards an Apple centric mindset, the one button mouse and all that. Most web developers are on Macs, so the backend looking all Apple like is appealing, makes you feel right at home.
The majority of end users are on Windows, soon to be Windows 10, that was my thinking. The last Apple machine I worked on was an Apple II, I think it was in the early 80’s.
I’m not saying to change Hive, I’m just wondering if we could have a backend switch of sorts, where Hive can be “Apple” like, or “Windows” like, or “Ubuntu” like, etc.

It’s like about 3 Sass code changes to make the colours flat. I can do that easily after the main Hive theme is finished, and then I can have that as an optional admin theme (i.e., a ‘Hive Minimal’).
Same with other colour schemes, very easy with the Sass colour variables.

That would be great, I’m really liking Hive, my Classic withdrawal symptoms have all but subsided.

On my todo list, to get familiar with the requirements to play with Hive off the repository.
