Clean URL randomly giving 404 error
I’m having an issue with clean url’s on a new site i’m working on which seem to randomly throwing 404 errors.
For example this clean url throws a 404 error and it’s messy url equivalent show fine.
An article with the same settings clean url shows file
Can any one give me some direction on what might be going on? This is the first time I’ve seen something like this in the few years I’ve used TXP. I have to have this site up by the end of next week.
I did a few tests and it seems like I am getting these 404 errors if the article url title is the same as a image/link/file category name. This is weird, it’s not like you can spit out a image/link/file category without a page or article containing it can you?
The issue was that the article url title was the same as a image/file/link category. Knowing is half the battle.

I cannot reproduce this on a stock install of Textpattern 4.5.4. Please post your diagnostics info.

I’m going to just follow the rule of don’t let a category name and an article url title match.

I have a working TXP installation where sections & category names and category names & article URL are identical. No problem.

Do you use something like gbp_permanent_links?
Maybe it’s the image/link/file category name part?
I only posted about article category.

I was using gbp_permanent_links, but it was causing more problems for me than it was worth. I’m not using it anymore.

Well, no quick idea from my side.
- Activate debug mode and check the output on the 404 pages (Not sure how deep TXP is able to debug a 404). Plug-Ins: Have a look on the running order. For specific ‘suspects’ switch up to 1 or down to 9.
- Deactivate all plug-ins and try to reproduce the problem.
- Switch on one plug-in after another and try to reproduce the problem (Have a look on the running order. For specific ‘suspects’ switch up to 1 or down to 9.)
- Try a fresh TXP install and try to reproduce the problem.
Sorry but that’s kind of my standard procedure for random errors (or if a dev like wet can’t reproduce error description).
