Send comment notification without including the comment body
Hey dudes.
Another potentially dumb question coming up. I’ve got my Textpatterns to alert me via email when comments are left on articles. About 60% appear to be spammy, despite the spam protection being set up correctly – this is not the problem in this case.
What’s happening is the emails are being sent correctly, but as the contents of the email contain the comment body, which in turn contains spam triggers, the notifications are being stopped by Gmail as spam.
Before I look into writing a plugin/patch to offer the option of sending notifications without the comment body, has this already been done/is it possible?
Thanks in advance.

If it’s for your own use only, why not just tell Gmail this isn’t spam?

Yes, good point. One of the problems with this approach is the whitelisting/allowlisting of my own email address sending emails to my own email address – this is a common trait shared with a lot of spam emails (sender = recipient), so it’s not an ideal solution.
I’ll investigate. Thanks, Els – appreciate your reply.

You don’t have to use that. You can filter for instance that emails with [your site name] in the subject are never sent to Spam.

Ah, even better – that saves me a lot of work. Thanks again, Els :)
