[wiki] New TxB Admin Announcement

I’m happy to announce and welcome Nora Brown (nabrown78) as a new TxB admin. She will be helping to keep things on track: version upgrades, style tweaks as needed, creating new accounts on request, etc.

She will be getting her wiki account details right after I post this, so please welcome her and remember her as another voice receiving your wiki inquiries and comments.

Re: [wiki] New TxB Admin Announcement

Thanks all,

Still not entirely sure how this will work—will somebody nudge me when there is something that needs doing? Or should I look for areas to work on on my own? Or both.

Glad I can be (potentially) of help.

Cheers,
Nora

Re: [wiki] New TxB Admin Announcement

Nora,

Thanks for taking an interest in helping out. It’s pretty low-key right now as we are past the bulk of the redesign, but it’s nice to have an extra person with back-end access nevertheless.

What would be nice at first is if we could alternate upgrading the wiki installation. That alone would make your involvement worthwhile. We have two wikis, actually, the test wiki and TextBook. We should rightfully upgrade the test wiki first to ensure all is OK before doing it with the TxB database. Mabye as a first step to getting in the swing of things, you might be willing to do the next upgrade. The current wiki is version 1.13.2, and the latest stable release is 1.14.0, so an upgrade is due.

Might not hurt to gander the few admin help docs that exist, particularly the ones having to do with updating the wikis. Of course if you have any questions/problems, just shout them out.

Another thing you might be willing to do for a while is create accounts on request. If so we would replace hakjoon’s contact info in help:New Accounts page with yours and you would be the new point person for a while to create new wiki accounts. It doesn’t happen often, I don’t think, so it’s super low-stress.

In the future there might be a new main navigation design you could help implement. Basically, once the new textpattern.com site is done, we want to adopt it’s main navigation design for consistency. This may require reworking the wiki skin a bit; we could wireframe or mock it up first to ensure we have a map of reference. Just tossing that out there, nothing to worry about right now.

Bloke and Els were just knighted with front-end editing authority so I don’t think you’ll have to worry about anything like that.

Bottom line: It’s super low-key. Don’t feel pressured. With time, and watching this forum, you’ll get familiar with the kinds of things needing done in the wiki. Doing an upgrade might be the first good step for familiarizing.

Re: [wiki] New TxB Admin Announcement

Hi Destry –
Okay, I should have subscribed to this topic (have now); it just occurred to me someone might have posted something I should read. I will check out the admin help docs this afternoon. It’s rainy here anyway.

Re: [wiki] New TxB Admin Announcement

Is this change relevant to the New Accounts page?

Re: [wiki] New TxB Admin Announcement

You better assume it’s correct as written. I don’t see any new account requests in the mail myself, so I can only presume Patrick is still on the job (or there’s been no requests for a long time).
