Need your reviews/opinions on Textpattern
Hey guys, I’m working on a website to help designers/developers out there who are new to CMS’s. I’m working on creating a resource where they can learn about different ones and hear from people who have used the CMS before.
Anyway, I’m looking for some of you guys who might be willing to submit a review and your opinions on Textpattern.
Thanks

Hey,
How does Scott feel about you linking to his OpenSourceCMS demos from your front end?

Re: Need your reviews/opinions on Textpattern
I’m not sure… but almost every CMS out there links to his site for their demos, so I did the same thing. He still has avertising on the top of the pages.

Using his bandwidth to provide interactivity for your site without asking first?
Tsk, tsk…

That’s how the Internet works.
Of course, giving some credit won’t hurt either.

TheJester12 is just linking to the OpenSourceCMS demos, which, btw, have ads on them. So it may be a benefit for him (OpenSourceCMS).
I don’t see he’s using their bandwidh (like, hotlinking static files, etc) in anyway.
But I insist: some credit to OpenSourceCMS (on the modal window), or clarifying that demos are provided by OpenSourceCMS, that would be nice, and enough.

Yes, to be fair I will clarify that some of the demos are hosted by OpenSourceCMS. Good idea. Will implement that soon.

Re: Need your reviews/opinions on Textpattern
Sounds like reviewer “marsden” has not seen the latest developments in TXP (admin themes, talk of extending custom fields and/or categories, etc). Sinking ship? Hardly. No major plugin writers? Guess that depends on your definition of a ‘major’ plugin? Only good for really simple sites? *shrug* can’t please everyone I guess.
But if anyone gets 2 minutes, put your own review up there with a more balanced critique instead of a one-sided tirade of negativity!

Done (hours ago).
“Sinking ship”?? Bah!
Textpattern is a corvette and those sometimes even have a small but agile crew ;-)
But – stupid me! – re-reading my critique I surely should have written
“With a little knowledge you can setup Textpattern and publish your first texts within an hour.”
instead of
“With a little knowledge you can publish your texts within an hour.” ;-)
Shows me I should make a vow of silence for a month or so. ;-)

Re: Need your reviews/opinions on Textpattern
I just posted a more appropriately glowing review of our beloved Txp!
Yeah, Wordpress is better because it has more plugins. Ones that don’t do anything a plugin is needed for, such as this one that apparently just inserts…
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/js"></script>
…on a page for you. Isn’t it just easier to paste that on your page template somewhere than to install and activate a plugin? OK, so I guess the plugin has been updated to let you integrate your Amazon Affiliates ID into links in the player, some real added value.
BTW, that Yahoo Media Player rocks! Have you tried it? That is as cool as anything I’ve seen Google come up with. I like Yahoo more and more. They have a bunch of cool apps: Flickr, Delicious, Yahoo Pipes, and I guess Yahoo mail ain’t a bad alternative to Gmail. Disclaimer: I own Yahoo stock.

BTW, anyone tried Squarespace? Seems cool, although expensive for something to make a site Txp could do for free.
