Re: PunBB integration?

Has anybody started working with Textpattern + PunBB user management sync yet?

I´d need a integration that works in a way that if you register in the PunBB forum you automatically get to be registered commenter in TXP. Kinda like that Movable Type has TypeKey.

And also the db user integration between TXP Blog authors and administration forum users.

Any ideas how to achieve these?

Re: PunBB integration?

Ideas, yet a lot. Should be simple. Writing it is a bit out of my league though. A shame :(

Re: PunBB integration?

Well, I’m back & totally in love with this new TXP ;) been lurking & played with a few installs since 0.9x
I’m going to be using txp for everything from here on out, haven’t been this excited about some .php code ever lol

This punbb bridge is a definate necessity now. I totally agree w/Jeremie about the bridge, actual integration would be a nightmare to support & keep current.

For my needs, a simple common auth for members would work to start.
I used the Nucleus/Punbb plugin for a site awhile back, it creates a (optional) forum post for articles & adds a link to it from the article.
One thing that I thought would be great, was round trip commenting between the comments & forum. Having them displayed both ways, as comments & a forum thread.
After some thought on it, I think the best way to accomplish it would be to have the forum handle the commenting & display the comments under the article via RSS?

Punbb v1.3 is coming soon with clean URLs & RSS feeds down to the thread level. (this will be the 2nd most excited I’ve ever been about some .php code lol)

Any thoughts?

I’m willing to part with some dosh for this hack =)

Re: PunBB integration?

Hi Dawk,

Count me in, I’d also like to see a similar integration like we did for Nucleus and PunBB.

I’ve got a site running Textpattern 4.0.3 and waiting on PunBB 1.3 to handle the forum.

I’m also willing to pay some monies towards this bridge.

My post on the PunBB forums

Re: PunBB integration?

So, “Integration” should be in fact two modules :

  1. A common auth in the frontend, but separated in the database (basically a replication of login/pass from one software to another)
  2. A way of using the forum software for comments. When an article is published, a new forum thread would be created with the article body as the first post (and a link from the article to the thread).

I’m also willing to put some money on this. I also can expand on this post, with more detailed scenarios and “how would that work”.

Any dev around here interested in doing this ?

OK, my workload is crazy at the moment anyway.

Like to get the ball rolling though, this’ll be sweet! ;)

Re: PunBB integration?

That’s why I asked for a developper… if any is interested, we could sat down with specifics, and get the ball rolling.

Re: PunBB integration?

Actually I’ve been thinking about doing something similar, except with the Vanilla Forum

Not exactly the same, but something similar, ie, integrating a weblog and a forum. And it would be easy to adapt for any other forum (but not for use with textpattern)

This is how I was planning on doing it:
Create a simple php script, that would get new discussion posts that were from a particular category (weblog category) and made by the Admin, and display them on the front page.

Clicking on the more link would direct you to the forum discussion post.

Please note that this would not integrate with Textpattern, just a way to use any Forum Software also as a weblog.

Let me know if anyone is interested in that script.

Re: PunBB integration?

I’d be interested,

been thinking how to pull off something similar?

I was thinking of using punbb for all member registrations & discussions, then pull the punbb thread via RSS & display it under the article with a link to the forum thread.
Still have to manually create the forum thread & post the link in the article though.

The Nucleus/Pun module I have used gets the job done, something similar that creates the forum thread & inserts a link in the article would rock.

EDIT:
I have $100 towards the bridge we discussed here too.
We should got a ransom pool going, that common auth bridge is no simple hack.
