Password_protect problem ::

I’m using the password_protect tag in the body of a page associated with a section. It works well, too well in fact.

When I try to access the section, I’m prompted for user/pass. However, it refuses to accept the proper information. It simply prompts me again (and again and again). I’m hosted on TXD, and I’m pretty sure all the server settings are correct. I’ve also checked and re-checked to make sure I’m not mis-typing.

Please help!

Re: Password_protect problem ::

It’s basic auth and you have to switch your php-fastcgi to mod_php in order for basic authentication to work via php>http. There’s plenty about it over at the textdrive forum and simply put in a ticket and it’ll take a couple minutes to take care of it for you.

There is also some discussion about how it’s simply easier to use digest authentication and http directly to protect a section (location in httpd). That way the web server takes care of it and your password isn’t sent in the clear like how it is with basic auth.

Thanks, Jason. I appreciate you taking the time to hand-hold me through some of this. No need for a ticket.

Re: Password_protect problem ::

I’m also having a challenge with txp:password_protect.

Jason’s response probably has the answer, but “basic authentication” and “digest authentication” mean nothing to me.

I have several sites (mine and clients’) hosted with Dreamhost.
