TextPattern or EE2 ( i want to quit WP)
i work witn WP, and i hate it. Nice and easy, BUT:
-lot of plug’s with horrible code plug ins that working after 2-3 updates
-security issues ( lot of them)
-updates may broke the site
and … many others problems so i decide to give up WP. Am looking for a new CMS.
i don’t know php, but i know dreamweaver, and so i can always export xhtml, and end up with a nice WP theme.
my question is:
1) EE 2 has a language of his own, equally powered to php, but simpler ( if had understand wright) and also is pretty stable. Does TextPattern, has a similar language or i had to learn php?
2) has stability issues like WP
don’t shut, am just begin.

Re: TextPattern or EE2 ( i want to quit WP)
Textpattern uses its own XHTML like tags to produce dynamic websites so you don’t need to know PHP to use it. You can see a list of all the tags here: http://textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Tag_Reference
The Textpattern manual would also be useful to take a look at: http://textpattern.net/

You could use both. It depends on the project. TXP is Free and customizable with plugin: it takes time to find the right plugin and maybe to understand the logic. EE2 is commercial (not so cheap) but it could be more reliable in complex sites that needs granular user groups/permission, community sites, integration with forum, newsletter, etc. Good for project of higher profile, I think. The design logic is similar but there are also limits in EE, as there are in TXP, as far as I know.
For content sites and low to moderately complex business site, I always use TXP. Never had security problems. I don’t know php (I can change some line of code to make up a plugin, nothing more).
EE has wiki, mailing list, integrate statistics, membership management out of the box, security check, duplicate data management, etc. But for some add-ons you may have to pay.
It really depends on projects. Just try. One product doesn’t fit all.

Re: TextPattern or EE2 ( i want to quit WP)
Please see this thread on EE and TXP:
http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=21347
I can certainly understand the need to escape WP.
I don’t agree with the assertion made in that thread that the EE staff put down open source CMS. I think the EE staff and community are fabulous.
Two updates to my comments in that earlier thread:
1. EE Core, a free version of EE, no longer is offered.
2. EE2 is now released but still undergoes development. It is a great app. That said, the default site that EE2 offers to install is, in my view, strange, complex and unhelpful in understanding the application. It is more of a showcase than a tutorial. TXP’s default site is easier to understand.
TXP and EE are the best solutions for me and have been for several years.
All boundaries are for practical purposes only.

The best thing about Textpattern are it’s template tags, which doesn’t require you to learn PHP to create templates. The next best thing is the community, it’s very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to web design. So if you’re looking to learn web design, this forum is one of the best places to hang out in.
pagou: take a look at Textpattern Solutions for education.

I don’t want to get back into that, but they did say on their forums that EE was better built because it’s was a commercial product and that Open Source products were inferior because they were open to any coders. Which was funny cause if it wasn’t for Open Source products, like MySQL and PHP, EE wouldn’t exist. Years later, the irony of it is that CodeIgniter was forked by disgruntled users into Kohana, an Open Source alternative which has been better received by the community, and was used as the basis for Gallery 3 by Menalto.

Re: TextPattern or EE2 ( i want to quit WP)
EE – I tried pmachine a couple of times and didn’t like it. Tried EE very early on and didn’t like it. Have no interest in trying it now because I am not going to pay for something and find out that I still don’t like it. – especially not $99… ouch.
The most important thing to me in any choice of software are personal usability and community. If you like it, but it isn’t going to meet your needs and it doesn’t have the user/developer base to grow, personally, I think that is not going to be the right choice. Open Source has advantages in this over commercial in terms of forkability, but if the interest isn’t there, it isn’t going to help.
I still use Wordpress for some sites because if I need to just get something up and running (especially a blog) it is just faster and simpler. Install it, load a theme, tweak a couple of settings and you are done.
Textpattern gives me much more control but the trade-off is that there is a greater amount of effort on my part from start to finish. Sometimes that doesn’t make sense. But the fact that it does often enough is what keeps me around here.

I played around with Sweetcron for a while before Yong moved on, and it was based on Code Igniter. I had never heard of Kohana. It seems one theme is the CI has better documentation, which unfortunately, is often a common difference between commercial and open source software.

Yes it does. No php is needed unless you wish to achieve certain site acrobatics in which case this forum will guide you through

Re: TextPattern or EE2 ( i want to quit WP)
I use both – actually, I use EE more than I use textpattern – but that’s only because EE templates as files make fleshing out a site much much faster. That said sometimes I’ve wrangled EE for hours to do what I could do textpattern in one minute. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantage to you could be to learn both and make a choice based on the site you’re working on.
