Recommend web hosting providers

Can anyone recommend any good web hosting providers? Googling never does any good since there are so many sites that just pretend they have reviews and redirect to affiliate links.

I’m currently with Webfaction and going to move to something else. I also have a hostgator account but unsure if I want to run the entire site on that one.

I’ve been using Media Temple for several years now – and would recommend them. They are not the least expensive option, but their customer and tech support is untouchable. You can always get someone on the phone (24/7) that knows what they are talking about.

Re: Recommend web hosting providers

I’ve been heavily considering media temple. The only thing that concerns me with them is that they will charge for over usage without giving you the option to opt out. Which is why, sadly, I am considering sticking with Hostgator for now. What are your thoughts on that?

Colak: Joyent appears to be more cloud based and costly.

Re: Recommend web hosting providers

I moved from joyent to mt grid service. I have a lot of sites (20ish) on one mt grid service account and havn’t been charged yet for traffic. None of them get mad amounts of traffic but all together I imagine it adds up. I think you can keep a close eye on it but I have read of that complaint before. Not sure if you can try it out first on a month by month basis.

Re: Recommend web hosting providers

Mike, I’m a lifer in Joyent as I paid a down payment for 5 urls at the birth of textdrive. It is pricey if you are paying monthly but the support is currently excellent.

Re: Recommend web hosting providers

I am happy on Joyent too (also a lifetime member so its free for life). The only other host I liked was FutureQuest. Expensive but excellent support. MediaTemple did not work for me.
