Hi everyone, I was wondering if there we’re any video tutorials about on textpattern? I have searched google but nothing really comes up. Youtube seems pretty empty too..
Thanks

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
Is it supposed that people needing a video tutorial should use Wordpress… ;)
I’m joking, take a look at these!

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
Thanks for the link, but youtube seems pretty low on textpattern tutes.. I just find video tutorials a lot easier than reading.

i agree, we need some sort of contest to help generate videos. also they should be in HD on a site like vimeo so people can read the script.

So all that is needed is to ask people who recorded any video tutorials (for plugins too) to post them on Vimeo. Then one of us should create a channel to collate all and ask to post that url in the Txp Network Links.

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
It would be great if someone would do some textpattern video tutorials.

ok so i guess we need some sort of requests for what videos to make, and we can build a database from there? you can also make videos based on various things on your sites that you’ve already built to save time.
i’ll try to compile a list of screen cap software people can use later on. there’s a free web based one i cant remember what it’s called right now

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
I really hope people start to add video tutorials on textpattern..
Here is a great link for 10 free screencast applications to download or online..
And two extra ones..
free, online and multiplatform, screentoaster
oRipa Screen Recorde
hope someone finds this link useful..

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
I think there’s plenty of software, they just need to be in a format that is not so compressed that one cannot read what is being pressed on screen.
The problem is more likely to be what kind of tutorials you’re looking for (end user, web-savvy developer, home-bake-my-site, etc.) and, if it’s going to be a collaborative effort, avoiding having too much overlap.
txpmanual already has some written tutorials on selected aspects but again, people want to do different things so it never really took off. Pity, really. Personally, for end users I’ve found extensive explain-all-aspects end user documentation doesn’t get read but that one-page-per-task documentation focussed around the site’s specific needs does.
There was a thread previously on collaborating on making videos, and there are a few txp videos posted there, but it too didn’t get far beyond comparing software.

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
its just a shame, I understand it’s peoples time.. but other well known CMS have plenty of Video tutorials.. I suppose Textpattern community is pretty small in comparison.

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
come on guys.. I good few video tutes would be ideal to get quite a few followers to tag along to textpattern.
I scoured the web and found like minded textpattern newbies desperate to get to grips with textpattern and feel watching a basic site of pages, forms and tags all being tied together would definitely wet peoples apatite.. I know I’d pay decent money to learn this way!!
This would be a great way to get more people on board..

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
Sorry to say it, but Textpattern is really an empty canvas. Because of that, video examples can only give restricted and small view of things. On top of that, Textpattern is just too simple to use. What should those videos instruct you? How to write XHTML or CSS? How to write Textpattern tag? Yes, what should they teach you after reading Textbook’s basics pages (which takes you 10 minutes to read).

Re: [contrib] video tutorials??
i sort of disagree Gocom. It took me a great amount of time to get up to speed on basic TXP usage myself, and i still often struggle with a lot of new plugins. I will admit though that yes CSS is probably my biggest annoyance more than the actual software.
here’s a good topic for a video – plugin devs should consider making a video on how their program works and what effects the various tags have – i’m sure they will see the 50 page forum thread reduced by plenty!
anyways i’m still brainstorming what i’d do a video on, but at the moment i would just show how a basic one of my sites works. like my main homepage which uses TXP to pipe songs into the mp3 players. i’m sure if people saw how i do it they could either learn from me or offer suggestions on how to make it better.

Not really a video tutorial but a video demonstration. I could see a benefit in that.
