Yeah, actually, that’s not a bad idea if someone were to take this plugin forward. Being able to allow a ‘Manging Editor’ access to just the Backup/Restore tab might be worthwhile. You don’t really want clients going into the SQL tab… unless of course you like charging support for client-initiated catastrophes :-D

although I agree with this statement, the repair function would be handy for nan savvy users. The drop function on the other hand can result in hours of hair pulling.

True, thinking about it again in light of what Jonathan and you said, I’m changing my mind on my initial thought. Perhaps it’s not such a hot idea to give unfettered access to the Backup page after all, and some kind of ‘dumbed down’ interface (the parts of which were at the adminstrator’s discretion) would be better, pulling the best (read: least destructuve) parts of those 3 tabs together for people you trust not to shaft it up.

Rob Sable’s rather nifty plugin was patched together to work with 4.0.6 by Colak . However, I can’t seem to get it to work with 4.0.7 (But get a twitchy when driving PHPMyAdmin )

What gives?

Not sure if it’s common knowledge, but I have been extending my own version of it.

Checkout my dev version (link in previous post); no SQL execution page and no table drops by default.

Re: [request] Request for an updated rss_admin_db_manager

Hi steve,

I’m experimenting with it on my localhost. No probs so far.

To avoid the confusion caused by zem_contact_reborn where users could not distinguish between Zem’s ZC and Ruud’s ZCR, a change of the plugin name might be a good idea so as to distinguish between Rob’s and your work.

If it’s just a private development copy, then it doesn’t matter, but if you distribute it publicly, I’d recommend changing the plugin name, taking over development of the original plugin or merging back changes.

Re: [request] Request for an updated rss_admin_db_manager

I’d like to second this, an updated version of this would be great.

@net-carver – what changes have you made/planning?

An “automatic” DB backup to email would be rather fantastic.

As a sidenote,

@gavnosis “I’ve previously developed sites on a server at Textdrive then moved them to a different uk-based host for my clients (1and1)”

As far as I know, 1and1 are german based server, not UK based. Sorry!

Re: [request] Request for an updated rss_admin_db_manager

I realise I am dragging this one up from the archives – but I would be willing to contribute to ransom an automatic database backup plugin that emailed the DB to a configurable email address. I use this on all my Wordpress blogs and it works well: http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup

Re: [request] Request for an updated rss_admin_db_manager

Check out MySQL Backup, which apparently offers an email option.
I use it for regular backups, but haven’t tried the email thing.

Masa’s suggestion is good. Regarding an update to rss_admin_db_manager, I believe mary is part way there already. How far she’s got to go I’m not sure.

Re: [request] Request for an updated rss_admin_db_manager

Yes – thank you Masa, that link looks like it might do the trick nicely.

Thanks for the link jakob, good to see that the plugin development is being taken over.

The offer still stands on the plugin to do automatic backups with email though ;)

Hi,
I would be willing to pay ransom for an updated version of this plugin also.
