seo url question

Ive been working on this site for a while now and its semi live on an url that is not advertised.

http://www.pattersonskitchens.ie/

if any link is clicked heres what happens to the url:
http://www.pattersons.s34978.gridserver.com/ or
http://www.pattersons.s34978.gridserver.com/furniture/

my question is will that url have an adverse effect on the sites seo?

the site was developed on a “subdomain” directory of mt grid service hosting. I followed media temples recommended procedure for creating a symbolic link from the subdomain to the standard domain. It involves changing a few lines with shell access. Now im worried because i have to point the current live site is one to this subdomain as well, i was going to use the symbolic link for that but im not sure if i should just do a redirect now.

this may not be the place for this but im not getting much response on the media temple forums as it deals with textpattern. Basically just want to know if the longer url is bad seo.

thanks

Re: seo url question

The url http://www.pattersons.s34978.gridserver.com/furniture/ is preferred for seo purposes as long as /furniture/ is relevant. It is good to break your url down to section/article.

http://www.pattersonskitchens.ie/furniture/brown-chair

If it is not ready to go live yet then don’t worry about the seo of the url yet. When it is ready submit you site map to google. There are some good sitemap plugins for textpattern.

If you are on media temple and you are getting the s34978.gridserver you can change it to point directly to http://www.pattersonskitchens.ie/ by editing your DNS zone file in the admin.

Re: seo url question

It is not preferred. You need to get rid of the s34978.gridserver part. The use of that part of the domain is for testing and development.

Get it to www.pattersonkitchens.ie and the furniture section will be www.pattersonkitchens.ie/furniture
