[resolved] Slow Commenting/Article views
Hello all,
I’m building my first Textpattern site and I’m having some performance issues. Most everything is lightning fast, but when I click an article’s headline or click the Comment link, it takes a significant amount of time to load. When it eventually comes up, I’m getting this in the page source:
<!— Runtime: 20.013 —>
<!— Query time: 0.004999 —>
<!— Queries: 20 —>
<!— Memory: no info available —>
Which, based on the performance FAQ, is obviously far too slow. Oddly, this only happens for new articles I’ve posted…the default “First Post” loads immediately. I’m not sure why it would take 20 queries to pull up a comment page…
Any ideas? I have a very simple/lightweight design and barely any content at this point, so I’m kind of stumped. I played with the DNS and other admin settings to no avail. I’d be happy to send the site URL if necessary.

Hey, that was it! Thanks so much! I disabled all other external-ping options but didn’t remove that one. As soon as I did, back to warp speed.

wow, how could that possibly still be an issue? maybe textdrive doesn’t directly have any control in correcting it but it seems odd that its been ongoing for this long now.

Just FYI, I’m not using Textdrive – my host is Bluehost (bluehost.com).

Sorry to bring this up again, but I have the exact problem now, and the link ruud gave is outdated (Invalid topic. This topic is invalid or has been closed already) maybe due to the new order of joyents forums.
My installation runs on a joyent shared accelerator.
What should I do? What has been the reason of slowness?

Tried and solved the problem (as far as I can see).
What makes me wonder is that the site has been running for months without problems.
Getting stuck only has occurred recently.
Any idea why that happens?
did the link of ruud (#2) point to the same solution?
Or is there any other issue on textdrive/joyent servers to take into consideration?

Don’t :) There have been lots of questions about this, so Mary created the FAQ. But you were not the only one not to notice because there have been several questions afterwards as well :) There is an explanation by Ruud here.

I don’t know, but looking at the last post before yours it also seems to happen with other hosts.

No, that’s why I’m wondering. I didn’t anything that could cause this.
But as far as I read spam-blacklisting isn’t very important or at least not so effective. I will see if there is any negative effect without it and then decide if I will give it another try later.

For those who feel a little less secure from comment spam by removing the blacklist, Manfre has a new Akismet plug-in which I have to say has had little publicity. I’ve been using it for about a month now and it seems to be doing the job very nicely without slowing the process down noticeably.
