Article titles vanished after 4.0.4 > 4.0.5 upgrade

My site had been running fine under 4.0.4, but when I upgraded, suddenly all of the titles to my articles no longer show up. The only titles that are still working are the RSS feed links. Neither the titles at the top of each article’s page nor the titles in the lists of excerpts are showing up. Wait, that’s not true… it looks like the titles for the movie review excerpts are working, but I have no idea what’s different. (They’re showing up in the list because they’re among the most recent 5 articles, but they’re being called with the same tag and they use the same form…) In the source, I can see just empty <h3></h3> where the title is supposed to be, except for the movie reviews, which have the title in there.

I will leave it as is for a little while in hopes that someone can see what the problem is, but I can’t leave the site like this for very long—I will have to revert back to 4.0.4 if I can’t get this working by, say, tonight.

Here is the site: opalcat.com

I have tried disabling each plugin one by one, and that didn’t help. I have it in testing mode right now. I can post a tag trace if need be, but it’s long so I won’t do it unless asked.

I hope someone can help! Thanks…

Re: Article titles vanished after 4.0.4 > 4.0.5 upgrade

Did you check the textpattern table to see if the title fields are all filled? At first sight I don’t see anything wrong in the tag trace. But often it’s helpful, when you have to locate a problem, to start with getting rid of any validation errors.

The > at the end of your sticky articles might have something to do with the etz_pg plugin?

Re: Article titles vanished after 4.0.4 > 4.0.5 upgrade

Put this in your article form, reload the frontpage and copy the part that has magically appeared (and no doubt ruins your layout) here on the forum. Then remove it again, so your visitors don’t see it:

<txp:php>global $thisarticle; dmp($thisarticle);</txp:php>

I hit the preview button instead of saving it and this showed up… is that good enough?

I just checked the table and every single article has a title in the title field.

No, I’m afraid I’m just guessing here. But it’s where I would start to look, since you seem to have that tag in your form exactly where the > appears. Maybe you could ask in the plugin thread? Or are you sure you did not mistype a tag (<txp:article />> or something like that)?

I just checked the table and every single article has a title in the title field.

Just another wild guess :( But I am sure Ruud did not ask you for nothing to post that output, so I expect you’ll hear from him ;)

I’ve double and triple checked for extra > in my form and page templates and if I did do that, I haven’t been able to locate it. I could always look again, though.

You might want to try running your page through the validator

It shows a lot of errors like elements that aren’t closed or nested properly (divs inside p tags) – that might provide some hints.

Re: Article titles vanished after 4.0.4 > 4.0.5 upgrade

According to the etz_pg author support topic, the trailing < bug should be fixed in etz_pg version 10.1

I’d recommend upgrading the other plugins as well. I haven’t checked them all, but zem_contact_reborn has a new version available.

The missing title is strange. Can you post your TXP diagnostics?
