[feedback] State of Textpattern - Part 2
Why was the previous thread closed? Obviously the issues discussed in that thread are still shared by many, and have yet to be resolved.
I would email you directly, Mary, but as I’ve witnessed in another, now deleted thread, you don’t take kindly to that and consider any civil questioning to be, “harassment.”

Why not discuss Drew’s post in Drew’s post? He’s running Textpattern, which lets you comment on blog posts. I think these threads get closed and moved because the exact same things come up again and again. I can’t speak for the mods mind you.
And, as I said in the other thread, if things are so horrible right now, why not start a fork? I suppose starting these threads is probably a better use of peoples time.

Why not post the entire email you sent to Mary here for all to see. It’s pointless to talk about whether it was ‘civil questioning’ or ‘harassement’ without seeing the original email. Since you wrote it and assuming it doesn’t contain private responses from others, you can post it here.

I have mailed mary a couple of months back a couple of times to no avail.
Apart from that i am not really interested in talking to Mary. I like to discuss with a community finding a solution. Okay, forking is a solution to ramanan. Question is: do you all /or the majority fancy that idea?

I don’t fancy it at all. My textpattern install works just fine.
More so, you don’t need majority approval to fork the code base. Alexandra, you can download the code to day, and the awesome features you think are missing, and run it yourself. I used to run a forked version of Textpattern on my site for a fairly long time. If people like you’re awesome new Textpattern, they’ll use that.

If people in this thread started chanting for a fork of the code, what would we learn? I’m not convinced the sentiments that come up in these threads echo the sentiments of the vast majority of textpattern users. Generally these threads are commented on by the same people, again and again and again. I myself am guilty of popping by to say the same things I always say (“Textpattern seems OK to me”). More so, what would this informal poll accomplish. We still wouldn’t have a fork people could use. These threads aren’t proactive at all. I find they just add noise to the forum. No doubt we could search for an old thread on this topic and the comments said, and the people involved, would be the same. The fact we aren’t moving forward on this is a problem. I don’t think yet another forum post is going to fix things.
Also, I suggest forking the code because there seem to be people unhappy with how things are under Zem and Mary.

To everyone who is threatening to stop using TxP and move to other better software/community, I suggest you to read the following post by Sencer (posted before he joined to the dev team):
Wordpress, Textpattern and security
I think it’s an insightful lesson about how can anyone get involved int the development process of an open source software.
Also, it particularly speaks about Textpattern (development process and “spirit”, if there is such a thing) compared to other software (WP in this particular case).
Of course, you have to read between the lines.

I would like to add: Sencer, Kusor, Wet and Ruud.
And for good or bad, they could be seen as Benevolent Dictators for Life.
