r2313: replacing an image loses previously entered values
If you have and existing image uploaded in txp and you have selected the category, alt text, etc… when you replace that image and click upload you lose all those previously entered values. All the form fields are cleard out. This happens in the official 4.0.4 release also.

Yes, I pointed to those issues before 4.0.4 release, and I remember developers noted the message (I can’t find it now, but it’s there in the Deep Forum…). So I wonder if this is meant to be a feature. One could think: “If you change the image, probably you also want to change the alt and caption”.
This may be true, but I experienced more replacing different version of the same image (size, quality), than replacing an image with a totally different one. So for me it would be nice to hold the values.
What do you (the devs) think? Any chance?

Fixing this properly means enough changes that might break something (like plugins, for instance), so we’ll have to leave it for crockery.

Wet just added a fix to svn that seems to do the trick here.

The forum feed was apparently unstable in the last few days, so I missed this whole thread while I commited the change set mentioned above by a random coincidence. If somebody is aware of a plugin which relies on the previous behaviour, please shout, I will then postpone this change set to crockery.
From a usability POV, I think it’s desirable to keep the meta data upon an image change, as it’s easier to manually zap/overwrite an input field than to retype lost and forgotten descriptions, imho.

Any news on whether this might make it into 4.0.5? I’ve been bitten by this bug more than once, and recently had a client experience the same problem.
