[archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

Notice: This thread is archived, this plugin is no longer available.

**********************************************************

rei_comments_invite v. 0.5

Based on the standard comments_invite. Shows link to comments with the names of the latest commenters. Very adjustable.

To me it seems quite finished, but feedback is appreciated! ;-)

Example output:

Comment – comments by Reinier, Dean, Jason

rei_comments_invite version 0.5

Example of usage:

<code><txp:rei_comments_invite /></code>
<code><txp:rei_comments_invite limit=“10” showcount=“yes” nocomment=“Commenting disabled” />
</code>

Default values:

  • wraptag = “p”
  • limit = “5”
  • sep = “, “
  • showcount = notset
  • emptytxt = notset
  • onetxt = notset
  • moretxt = notset
  • nocomment = notset

Explaining the attributes:

  • wraptag: the tag around the whole thing
  • limit: the maximum names of commenters displayed
  • sep: the seperater that seperates the names (if “br” than they are nicely breaked)
  • showcount: if set on <em>yes</em> (or any other value) the amount of comments is displayed just like the default textpattern way
  • emptytxt: the text before the names, when there are no commenters
  • onetxt: the text before the names, when there is one commenter
  • moretxt: the text before the names, when there are multiple commenters
  • nocomment: the text to show when you disabled comments for the entry

I hope this is in clear English, and if not, ask away!

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

Why not use the somewhat standard wraptag=“ul” and break=“li” that I have seen before to create a nice unordered list? &lt;br/&gt; is ugly, and it would be a great help if things would stay somewhat standard between plugins.

And Also the plugin spits this out for me:

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

@misterk: I know that ul is prefered (hell, I built the unordend ‘latest comments’ plugin). But it’s more of a question if ‘br’ should be removed, other than that ul should be added.

Did you put the tag in a article form?

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

I got that, I was expecting a zip file. Another poster pointed out that this IS the file to be installed. The TP help could at least give a one line indication that this is the way it works, not with zip files.

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

The plug-in is working great, Thanks for putting it together. I do have one question, perhaps for a future version.

I have TXP set to close comments after six weeks. The plug-in then shows the “nocomment” text I’ve added (“Comments Off”). But the comment count is gone, as well as the link to comments. It gives the impression that there are no comments on the article, when they are simply closed.

Is there a way around this I have missed, or could this be changed in your next version?

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

From the top of my head: this is just how Textpattern works. I don’t know if I can get around that. But I’ll have a look soon.

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

Thanks for looking into it. I wouldn’t have mentioned it at all, except for the difference in before and after. Since I’ve yet to move my domain, for at least a couple more days, I can show you.

Here’s a page from my old Textpattern site, with no plug-in:

http://www.photodude.com/index.php?pg=9&s=default

Note how the comment invite still is a link, and has a comment count, even though comments are closed on that article. And here’s what I’m getting with the plug-in:

http://photodude.textdrive.com/?pg=10

No link, and no comment count. It’s admittedly a minor point, but it would be nice if it was clear comments still exist on the article page, even if they have been turned off.

Re: [archived] rei_comments_invite: Names of commentors etc.

Great plugin that worked fine “out of the box”.

One thing that bugs me though is not beeing able to see the syntax inside TXP just a info that states “check the textpattern forum”. Not exactly optional since it might be installed on a system by one administrator and used by a designer who needs syntax for it and does not know of this place.

My two cents.
