rah_sitemap

A Textpattern plugin to build valid Sitemap.org sitemaps for search engines, including Google, with out hazle. Supports category, section, article and even custom URLs.

  • Simple interface under Textpattern > Extensions > Sitemap: build, view, modify and customize sitemap.
  • Filter, include and exclude section, category and article URLs from the sitemap.
  • Create and insert custom URLs to the sitemap with couple simple clicks.
  • No need to create files nor set permissions, instead just use the plugin and eventually submit the sitemap URL to Google (via Webmaster tools) or other searh engine.
  • Sitemap is automatically gzipped as much as possible – atleast if server supports gzipping.

Re: rah_sitemap

Nice. Love having an interface where we can build the sitemap. But I’m confused

I installed the plugin, went to the sitemap url on my domain but it is not rendering within it’s proper form and page template. Are we supposed to build a page and form template for the sitemap?

Re: rah_sitemap

Dreamer, it is Sitemap.org valid XML Sitemap that isn’t (usually) for people, but instead for bots; Googlebot and co. Althought you could include it in your human visitor pages with XSLT-parsers etc. but it isn’t meant to be used like that.

As said, it is sitemap, not html sitemap.

one stupid question: do i have to submit this url: ?rah_sitemap=sitemap to google sitemap url field?
because i don’t see any sitemap.xml files in a root directory of my homepage after plugin installation-activation

i installed plugin and submitted sitemap to google, but, get warnings:

“An invalid date was found. Please fix the date or formatting before resubmitting.”
Parent tag: url
Tag: lastmod
Value:c
Problem detected on: Oct 15, 2008

i’m not sure, what i have done wrong, what exactly i need to do to fix it?

Re: rah_sitemap

Gallex, you have invalid LastMod time in some of your articles for some reason. Possibly caused by using really old Textpattern install in past or old Windows server (that as we know, don’t support all valid date formats).

  • Could you provide your sitemaps XML source code?
  • Could you check your lastmod times via phpmyadmin or manually via Textpattern.
  • What Textpattern versions you have been using?
  • Server specs?

What could make LastMod time invalid?

  • In past Textpattern saved it wrongly.
  • Lastmod time is smaller than (date before) Posted time.
  • Server misfunctioned and added wrong dates.
  • Last mod time is located in future for some reason (because above reasons).
  • Time that was saved in database was invalid to begin with (old sys/txp).
  • You got invalid chars in your article titles, sections – those are also used on sitemap, and will make sitemap invalid too, as they will do XHTML and plain XML.

Re: rah_sitemap

Gallex, affraidly your server is too outdated – it doesn’t support PHP date functions “c” format :/

To fix this, update to PHP 5.x.x+. :)
