Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

stevechamp and himynameisjonas – I can definitely say this is a messy URL problem. I can definitely not tell you why. Stay tuned.

theturninggate – Odd still. You deleted all of the .dat files and it still recreated the cache without the years? I made one other minor change although I don’t know that it was causing any of this. Can you try downloading again, deleting the .dat files and regenerating the cache?

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

nice site design ken:)

For me the years appeared out of the blue – there I was plugging away at trying to get it work, I gave up and came back a few hours later to discover they had appeared.

Are the files being cached? Do you see any dat files in the cache dir? It might be worth creating a new document, and publishing that to see if it makes any difference. I wish I had a fullproof solution, but it’s all a bit random for me at the moment.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

None of the examples mentioned up to this point are working for me when going to the respective sites. I am using Firefox 1.0.4. All I see is the archive heading, then a flash of something that disappears leaving a blank space where the archive is supposed to be. I am wondering if it is the browser that blocks something or other. I do have js enabled.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

deleted the cache files, republished an article and it’s still the same.

(oh, and thanks for the complement sekhu)

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

I have a question about the way it handles having javascript turned off. Would it be possible to have your plugin check and see if the user has javascript turned on then if not include the alternate content?

The way it is now if the user has js on the live_archive content loads then all the alternate content (say rss_superarchive) loads. It seems like a whole lot of uneccessary content and loading time for those (the majority) who have js turned on.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

well this works for me as I said in some random context – i’m going to try the update and see if it makes any validation changes, and if it works first time. I’ll report back later

EDIT: I uploaded the new release and it still displays the year plus it now validates to 1.1 – brilliant stuff rob, and thanks.

I don’t know how consistent this is. however, in adding the year. My only useless suggestion is keeping hitting publish or maybe add a comment to one entry as it seems to update when a comment or new entry is made?

The path to my cache dir is simply the default to the tmp. Since I’m using the front page relesae of TXP the extension tav was a little odd, but it worked fine in the end. You may want to add BOTH the sections AND the categories, enable caching and then again start publishing some items or republishing existing ones. Can’t really say for certain.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

ken – just wondering if you had years working originally, upgraded and then you had this problem? If 0.5 as the first release you tried, you could upgrade it with the cache set from 0.4 and then update to 0.5. Just a thought. Worked for me anyway

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] rss_live_archive

Tinyfly: I got around this problem by setting up a second page using the regular rss_suparchive plugin. Then, instead of wrapping that plugin with the live archive tags, I used this:

[txp:rss_live_archive />[p>This page requires Javascript to be enabled. Please try using the [a href=”…”>Static Article Listing[/a>[/p>
[/txp:rss_live_archive />

It requires an extra click by the user to access the archives, but since most people have Javascript enabled it will be only a small few that ever see this, and I prefer it to loading all that archive data for every person who visits, especially the ones that don’t need it.

wilshire: I deleted the .dat files, installed the latest version, regenerated the cache and … no years.
