Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

I have upgrated my test (not public) and all seem to work fine. Congrats to all are in order. My diagnostics read:
path_to_site doesn’t match document_root [ /www/path/to/mysite.net/htdocs ]
but all is working. Any ideas?

There is going to be one released in about a week once minor bugs get worked out. Dean stated it in his initial post.

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

yay!

i have to hold off playing with it till next week when the zipped version is available and i have a bunch of free time — but it’ll be sweeeeeet.

thanks so much — definitely worth the wait. i can’t wait to see this diagnostics tab..

and thank goodness i no longer have to refresh that one particular thread in the ‘version 1’ section – the wait is over, phew.

;)

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

Ok, looks great from the list of changes. But since i’m a typical german i have some criticism i would like to share with you.

1. I’ve done svn updates regularly over the last months, the last was probably somewhere between a week and two ago. And in this time i never received ANY update. And i can’t believe that they have done all these things in such a short time. So i assume that http://textpattern.com/svn/repos/current/ is not the real development repository. Why?

2. ??Added rel=

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

Ok, I can understand the criticism. I like it, really. Assume you want some kind of answer, so… :

1) We started to contribute to TXP code from our own code. We develop for us and tell Dean about it. He thinks that our code could be of utility, and we decide to merge it into main textpattern branch.

There are ton of modifications and many of them will cause backwards compatibility problems so, we decide to keep development separate until we have something to test without too many problems, since we know that many users will start to test the code we launch, without any care about if it is or not a development only release.

On the future, there will be a development only branch, with a nice “Do not report bugs about this” legend.

If you’re curious, we started to code together 3 weeks ago.

2)1.0RC3 means Release Candidate – as you know – and there are some things still open. One of the reasons to launch an RC, instead of a “stable” version, is to hear opinions. And you can be sure that we will consider all of them.

3) I’ve got finished trackback, more or less, a year ago. Why I didn’t launch it yet?. Well, trackback implementation is simple. But spam prevention is not. As you can see, if you give a look at comments code, there are new features on this RC, intended to procure a better span prevention.

I will launch the code as soon as I’ll assure spam protection works fine.

Of course, I can’t not read german – I would like to do it, really.

And thanks for the criticism. It’s truly required to build a better project.

I’m a little behind the group here but let me echo the thanks and appreciation for your hard work dean, zem, kusor, jason, damelon, and anyone else who helped out directly or indirectly.

Its amazing to see the thought and consideration that is put into Texpattern. Here’s to 2005: year of the text!

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

Thanx kusor for the fast reply.

1) ok, i’ve done the same, but i did not bug Dean with my changes – i thought he had enough at hand for himself. And also i didn’t change so much – only some changes and extensions and fixes (some of them are listed in your changes too). So i can fully understand that, and i’m completely satiesfied with the answer.

2) The RC is the reason i said something about it. :-) So i hope that

3) Ok, good enough for me. I really don’t care much what implementation i use for trackback, but i think i would like to have it. :) Regarding the spam protection: a comment of mine on a blog of a friend was recently rejected because the WP plugin said my ip was blacklisted (at the above mentioned sites), but it wasn’t. So maybe sometimes these sites don’t work as expected.
