Replacing multiple images ... is that possible?

You can replace one image at a time while maintaining alt and/or caption text. Is there a plugin that’s capable of replacing multiple images … while maintaining alt and/or caption text?

I suppose you could upload the images via ftp as the images are named by the id (1.jpg, 4.jpg). Then recreate thumb (never tried) or upload a thumb via ftp too.

Yeah, that’s one way … and maybe the only one. This website contains hundreds of images … with alt and caption text. The owner wants another site structure with new image catagories. And if it isn’t to much work a new responsive site … :) But my guess is that it will be to much work for him. Pity … :(

If you’re not afraid of massaging the database directly, you can export the txp_image table as csv from phpmyadmin, then redo your images. Replace the images and thumbs via ftp as tye suggested, edit your csv in excel or similar to reflect the new image/thumb sizes (change categories too if you need to), then re-import only that table from the csv file.

Some tips:
  • Take a backup of the database first :-)
  • Work methodically
  • If you need a way to match your original image filenames to the txp numbered files and you have access to a mac, the program “A better finder rename” allows you to rename files by text list. You can use the csv file to generate a file-rename list, batch re-export your images at the required resolution, then rename them accordingly. There’s probably a comparable program also available for windows: maybe someone else can suggest that.
