prefs page gets 404

Hello,

I’ve just migrated a txp site to a different host, and everything seems to work absolutely fine, apart from the slightly odd fact that the ‘basic’ preferences page delivers a 404 when I try to save anything. It loads just fine, just won’t save. Advanced prefs load and save fine.

I’ve read about vaguely similar 404 issues that involve either htaccess issues or hosting security things (mod_sec) etc … but because this is such a seemingly isolated error, I just wondered whether anyone could point me in the right direction before I spend (what I just know will be) a day on this.

Which host? Anything whacky shown in the diagnostics?

Actually, with a little more digging around, turns out it’s a hosting issue, and not as isolated as I thought. It is in fact related to other threads on this forum (my apols for not working this out sooner).

I leant on the provider a bit, and got this response:

“Wordpress [sic] often interferes with a certain security module that I’ve now disabled.” … then it worked fine.

Something about this still seems a little odd to me, but … well, that seems to be that.

Hosting companies spend loads of time tweaking filters and breaking stuff.
