Editorial notes for images (and articles and files)

In a scenario with multiple contributors I need a field for editorial notes for each image, e.g. “do not use this without contacting XY!”
It would also be useful for articles and files, e.g. “this article needs an update in three months” and “this download is useful only before 6th December”.

Is there any plugin for this?

I’ve tested adi_notes, but it isn’t the thing I’m looking for: adi_notes are global notes, so if I add a note to an image it will show below each and every image. So it doesn’t help if I need to comment a single image.
What I’m looking for are notes or admin-side comments to be stored individually for pieces of content.

Brainstorming:

Could you repurpose smd_tags for this? If I remember correctly, it allows tags to be created on the fly. If some of your editorial notes are repetitive it would allow for reuse.
