Same here… I got 0 hits for article… hehe

I’m beginning to suspect that it just stops processing the search when the number of results is er… overwhelming ;) plugin, forum, article, tag… Who would seriously want to search for those words anyway ;)

The Tabula Rasa theme has been there for a while. Search for ‘forum style’ – in the advanced search ;) – and it’s the first topic in the list…

Never noticed it Els, missed it.

As for making it the default, even in the thread you link to, many people agreed that it should be the default for new users and guests. Keep in mind that current users retain their txpish choice, no matter what the default changes to.

(Quoting Bert, but replying to everyone who said the same) I personally have no objections at all to making Tabula Rasa the default style! I can see that, as well in this thread as in the older one, the majority of posters is in favour of it. It’s just not up to me to decide, sorry.

LOL. From now on this will be our default reply to every ‘this forum search sucks’ post :)

Maybe I was unclear, we are saying exactly the same thing.

Re: New forum software

Even searching for “textpattern” returns zero results. Are there logs that might help track the issue down?

Els, I’m sorry if you felt pressured in anyway. My intention was to get a dialog going on improving the forum experience for the community.

Re: New forum software

I actually prefer txpish over tabula. I don’t care much what the default is, as long as I can still use txpish.

Searching within topics would be nice, especially for topics that have 100+ posts.

Exactly. I suspect that the forum relies on MySQL to get search results. If a keyword appears in more than half of the records, MySQL will ignore that keyword. This makes sense. If the search results are over half the topics that were ever posted, you might as well start reading every topic without searching.

By default, PunBB does not use MySQL full text search, it builds two files – search_matches and search_words. I know Mary was looking to improve this, maybe she modded the software to use the MySQL search mechanism since rebuilding these indexes takes time, and also use up quite a lot of database space.

If sticking with PunBB is the plan, you would need to contact a former PunBB developer and ask them if they could look at the code and determine what the deal is with the search.

Re: New forum software

Bert, what forum software would you suggest? My main gripe with punBB is the search. I don’t use Google or other unless the search fails, and I think its better to have a forum software with a good search facility instead of relying on Google.
