Feedback to: Help us test the release candidate for the upcoming 4.0.7

See weblog post: http://textpattern.com/weblog/328/testing-upcoming-407-rc1

The final, official 4.0.7 release is scheduled for next week, unless unexpected problems or errors arise.
We’re looking for people who like to help us make sure that we didn’t miss any regressions or introduce new bugs. We would like to get feedback on clean installations and updates from older versions.

Make sure that if you use this release candidate, you also update to the final 4.0.7 version when it is released.

Download Textpattern CMS here

Note:
  • The included HISTORY.txt file already lists most of the important changes since 4.0.6. If we missed something, let us know.
  • The download advertises itself as 4.0.6 (r29xx) in diagnostics, because we haven’t yet bumped the version number.

Re: Feedback to: Help us test the release candidate for the upcoming 4.0.7

The only thing I’ve noticed is that the new parser is stricter. For example in TXP 4.0.6 I had the following typo:

</txp:else />

Which didn’t break anything, so it went unnoticed, but TXP 4.0.7’s new parser will have issues with this. It took me a while to figure out what caused the breakage, so as a heads up if your site isn’t displaying everything, do a once over on your tags.

Should the upgrade instructions on textpattern.com be updated to include the new ‘rpc’ directory?

The download advertises itself as 4.0.6 (r30xx)

Is it my imagination or is it advertising itself as 4.0.6 (r2997)?

I’ve installed it without errors and haven’t noticed any problems using it, no problems with any of my plugins either.

Providing a list of plugins that DO cause problems may be more interesting.

Re: Feedback to: Help us test the release candidate for the upcoming 4.0.7

From my own plugin stable:

  • smd_tags will likely fail under some circumstances until it has been updated to include the new Expires column (plus it has a few other bugs that have been fixed in my development version)
  • smd_remote_file may fail when deleting multiple files at once because the multi-delete capability isn’t in the plugin yet
  • ied_plugin_composer will work but people using TXP 4.0.7 should upgrade to v0.8 of the plugin to take advantage of the new core features and start using the latest template

The only other thing I have seen every now and again is the following message when saving an article:

Fatal error:

Error: '' is not an integer

assert_int()
textpattern/include/txp_article.php:196 array_map()
textpattern/include/txp_article.php:52 article_save()
textpattern/index.php:116 include()

If I change a character in the article (add a space, anything) and save again, it goes away but if I click Back and leave the article as it is I get that message again when I save. I have yet to ascertain under what circumstances it does this (buggered if I can replicate it now, I’ve tried all sorts!) so I can’t tell if it’s a misbehaving plugin or a random bug.

If it helps any, on the occasions it does happen, it’s usually very early on after I’ve logged in. Like, I’ll log in, maybe open the Presentation screen in a separate Firefox tab, open the Forms screen in yet another tab, go back to the first tab and list the articles, edit one and then sometimes I’ll get that message when I click Save. After that it’ll go forever without a hitch so maybe it’s just some uninitialized global the first time you visit the Write page? *stab in the dark*

Like I say, I can’t replicate it right now. It may well be a naughty plugin (probably one of mine!) that hooks into the Write tab and is clearing one of the globals (ID?), but it’d be interesting to know if anyone else has seen it.

Other than that, it’s all looking spiffy. Top work, guys.

Related to the $_POST contents of either article ‘ID’, article ‘Status’, dropdown ‘textile_body’, or dropdown ‘textile_excerpt’. Any plugins which might intervene?
