Latest articles on 2 separate installs are returning 404's. Need help!

Hi,

On my site Peppermint Tea that has been running Textpattern for the longest time, all of a sudden my latest 2 articles are returning 404 when trying to visit their permalinks?

I haven’t changed anything in Textpattern or on the server.. this is really strange, never seen a problem like this before. Updating from 4.0.5 to 4.0.6 didn’t help.

Any ideas what could be causing just the latest 2 do this and none of the others?

Help needed!

Thanks,
-Sam

Hi Steve, yeah I can.

http://pepperminttea.co.uk/?id=280 &
http://pepperminttea.co.uk/?id=281

Seem to work fine. What’s bugging me the most is nothing has changed that I am aware of anyway.

what plugin are you using to generate the urls? The scheme which produces
http://pepperminttea.co.uk/2008/02/18/adsenseagg-updated-to-v102
is not txp native. My suspicion is that it is a problem with the plugin or possibly with a corrupted table that plugin is using.

Hi Yiannis,

That is a native TXP url schema actually:

Permanant Link Mode /year/month/day/title

Still haven’t got a clue whats happening and its a pain as its breaking my site as is.

Edit: Checked the tables in the database all are fine. :(

Ok.. now its happening at welovetxp.com too!

Latest article: http://welovetxp.com/2008/02/18/tallboy-creative doesn’t work, messy does.

Perhaps something was updated server-side?

Edit: Interestingly a third Textpattern install on the same server does not have this issue. WTF is going on!?

Edit 2: Note that both the broken URLs are in the /year/month/day/title format, the third test that worked fine was not.

Edit 3: This is just plain bugging me now, I somehow managed to post a new article at Peppermint Tea that doesn’t 404! (I did create a new section called ‘test’, so that the article wouldn’t be linked to from the RSS feed).

Edit 4: I created a duplicate post at We Love TXP with the latest entry (Tallboy Creative) and it appears to work fine. Any ideas why?

Re: Latest articles on 2 separate installs are returning 404's. Need help!

I found the problem, now I need help with a solution.

My host changed the server time from CMT (where the server is located) to Hawaii Standard Time (where he is located) and this has broken the clean URLs, even on older articles. For example:

http://welovetxp.com/2008/02/17/estbay no longer works but
http://welovetxp.com/2008/02/18/estbay does work.

How do I fix this, as a lot of things are linking to the original, Textpattern knows it as being published on the 17th, that’s what’s in the RSS Feed and that is what people are linking too. Is there any way to fix this easily?

Thanks for your help!!

You could try to turn time backwards in Textpattern’s preferences (TXP / Admin / Preferences ), by trying to change the Time zone and/or DST, so that the timezone difference matches the original.

I hope that helps.

Re: Latest articles on 2 separate installs are returning 404's. Need help!

Hi Jukka, unfortunately that didn’t work.

The situation

Estbay was published at 7am GMT on the 18th (my local time) which was 1am CMT on the 18th, which is now (because of the server time change) 9pm on the 17th. Textpattern is linking everything to the url with the 17th in it but it only works by visiting the url with the 18th in it.

Any other solutions?

Re: Latest articles on 2 separate installs are returning 404's. Need help!

Basically all of the Posted fields in the database have moved -4 hours, but if this happens to move between days the URLs break.

Are the URLs clean URL taken from feed_time field? Because that is displaying the wrong date (or the original date anyway).

Sorry for all my ramblings everyone, I’m just really keen to get his fixed ASAP.

The clean urls are made from Posted. You could run a single query on the textpattern table to correct the post time for all your articles (I would make a backup first).

What does this query return?

SELECT @@global.time_zone, @@session.time_zone;

Hi Mary,

Thanks for jumping in here.

Both Global and Session time_zone are SYSTEM.

I think I need to go back -4 hour (time zones) from Hawaii Time (GMT-10) to CMT (GMT-6).

Cheers.
