"I forgot my password" link in 4.1?

It would nice to have a way to enable users who have forgotten their password, to be able to automatically regenerate their password when they’ve forgotten it.

For instance, on the login screen I imagine there would be a link that says “Forgot my password” and when they click on that link, it takes them to a screen which asks them their username and they could request a new password. Then an email will be sent automatically with a newly generated password.

+1, but in a different implementation that described by brian:

  • Click “I forgot my password
  • Confirm yes/no?
  • Email is sent with link to page that, when visited, resets password
  • New password is emailed

It’s an old feature request, still relevant today. Yes that would be quite useful.

With PHP the passwords are stored in such a way that not even administrators can’t see the passwords.

Though the point is moot ‘cuz they can reset it anyway (without you necessarily knowing).

But yeah, I can see a need for this.

Could we use a method similar to the one punBB is using?

Yes, that’d be the idea.
