Re: add IP logging back into 4.7.1 ?

IP logging is not coming back to the core, sorry. If you need to log/view visitor IPs there is dedicated software to do that, which is a better solution than relying on Textpattern to do it anyway.

Also, it doesn’t matter if you live in the US and host in Canada. Unless you physically block EU citizens from visiting your site(s) then you are breaking GDPR laws by automatically collecting their IP data. While I find it highly unlikely lawyers are going to target you individually – this is why it is removed from Textpattern’s core.

Of course, having the functionality via a plugin would be OK as long as you don’t care about the above.

As for access to the server logs, while my web host likes me, I doubt they like me that much.

You can sidestep the server logs (and whether your host likes you or not) and look at Matomo — it’s a LAMP app which runs a script on each page and gathers information that way, bypassing the server logs and building its own.

Disclaimer: I’m not a lawyer, but I operate sites in and out of the EU, and the GDPR legalese has made me change my whole approach to building and operating sites.

Everyone focuses on people being extradited to the US. I am looking forward to the first extradition to the EU for violating GDPR.

I’m not going to worry about laws outside my country. Just as our laws have no standing there, their laws have no standing in the U.S.

This was made very clear to us when my ship deployed overseas.

I checked cpanel, and I can select archiving of raw access logs. If I don’t select them to be archived, they get deleted after 24 hours.

There is a very good statistics script: http://www.fri-stats.com/

Demo: http://www.fri-stats.com/stats/

This is “Mini” or “Micro Matomo”.

But the interface is in Russian.

I will ask the author to make an English version.

Sorry my horror English. I’m learning textpattern, I’m learning English
