Domain registrar recommendations

I’m with GoDaddy (15x gTLD and ccTLD) and NamesBeyond (1x obscure ccTLD) for my domain registrations, and it’s time for me to migrate elsewhere.

I’ve been poking around at Gandi and Namecheap as possible transfer destinations. Gandi seems to have the edge right now, especially with their ability to transfer in my obscure ccTLD (.ag). I don’t need hosting or anything fancy right now, perhaps SSL in the future, but I’d be grateful to hear your registrar recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Domain registrar recommendations

Moniker has been good after several years of experience. They seem to have more of a domain-only focus compared to a company like GoDaddy – GoDaddy always is trying to sell you 58 other things.

Moniker does now have SSL & hosting options, but we have found them to be a reliable (and cost effective) place to simply keep our collection of domains.

What are the positive criteria to justify a recommendation?

I’ll bite – why? I switched to Gandi from GoDaddy and I’m very happy.

Re: Domain registrar recommendations

I like Gandi, so interested to hear what’s wrong with them too! For hosting I’m not so keen on Gandi, but for domains they’ve been great.

I use name.com and don’t have problems with it.

Re: Domain registrar recommendations

As a long-time GoDaddy user I can fully recommend Hover. Which I need to be more judicious about moving my domains over to.

Gandi has a good reputation but their interface is from Mars. Terrible. A hodgepodge of tabs. I have one account with them thinking I would transfer everything over to them, but i found the website a hodgepodge. never moved anything over.

ps I would never have the Registrar and Hosting combined. I prefer to spilt the two services up.
