Just leaving this here as a reminder that we are going to have to give this functionality some thought in future versions of Textpattern.

fwiw, I’m not a fan of either <picture> or srcset because they both blur the line of content vs presentation. And maintaining media queries inline in multiple places in HTML is a hiding to long bouts of head-scratching, imo (though, of the two, I prefer <picture> if I absolutely had to choose).

I’m way more in favour of something along the lines of HTML meta variables as they encapsulate decision-making in the <head> such that all technologies further down the page can absolutely rely on the information. But I guess that proposal has sadly fallen away in lieu of something more unwieldy… *sniff*
