Me neither, we would have heard about it here. I rather thought of a corrupted archive file at your side and howsoever it originated. … just doing something different to exclude what happened before.
In bad weather I never leave home without wet_plugout, smd_where_used and adi_form_links

Problem solved :-)
Installed a new and clean TXP version 4.2.0 and then upgraded to 4.5.4.
With some errors because missing write rights…
But: I dont know exactly what the problem was.

The source file corruptions I mentioned mainly refer to to uploading failures; malformed extracted source files from uploading.

Race conditions are one cause, resulting in write errors I mention in my first answer (in addition to other, regular, write errors of course).
As I mentioned, the setup process is error prone and does not do any validation. It’s also strictly synchronous, while not enforcing it and as such prone to race conditions, if the setup script is executed again while the first setup process is still running.
Any change the setup process was run twice? Did you happen to click the Install button multiple times (e.g. double click), or did you try to reload the page while the setup was being performed (due to it taking seconds to load, and you wanted to speed things up)?

no. (3x) Every time I waited for the next screen before I did the next klick… :-)

Oh well, I still have the same problem when doing a fresh install with 4.5.5 …
Only thing that worked was lisabelle’s trick:
Then I cleaned the existing database, deleted the config.php and did only the set-up again.
Voilá, it worked.
(Shared hosting is at HostEurope, btw, never had any trouble with their webspaces)
