Admin Image Error Message

I’ve started getting an error message when I click on the “Images” tab in the admin window:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting ‘]’ in /data/16/1/15/95/1504747/user/1618844/htdocs/textpattern/lib/class.thumb.php on line 239

I’m very new to textpattern so I’m not sure how to go about fixing this.

Thank you!

Jennifer

Re: Admin Image Error Message

Hi Jennifer, welcome to the TXP forum.

Errors like yours are usually caused by a plugin. Have you modified one or recently installed any? Try deactivating them one by one or – in case you have too many – go to Preferences > Advanced, scroll down to where it says sth. like “Use plugins” (translated from German), click “No” and save, then visit the panel in question again.

Re: Admin Image Error Message

I actually don’t have any plugins. I deleted them all because I wasn’t using any.

Re: Admin Image Error Message

I just upgraded my textpattern to 4.5.4 and I’m still getting this error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /data/16/1/15/95/1504747/user/1618844/htdocs/textpattern/lib/class.thumb.php on line 242

Re: Admin Image Error Message

Perhaps some (EDIT:) plugins needed to be removed according to their instruction, not simply deleted, and now their traces in the database are causing your issue.

I’d try reinstalling them like this: After pasting the plugin code and clicking the “Install” button you’re shown a preview of the help text. Study and discard (i.e. don’t click “Install” from there) if you don’t encounter removal instructions. If you find any, complete the installation and execute these hints.

Re: Admin Image Error Message

Here is some more information. Every time I try to upload class.thumb.php into the /lib/, it fails to transfer because of a timeout error. So now I’m not sure how to get that file transfered.

Any hints in the Diagnostics panel?

Re: Admin Image Error Message

I’m not sure what to look for, but this is what the Pre-flight check says:

Pre-flight check

/data/16/1/15/95/1504747/user/1618844/htdocs/textpattern/setup/ still exists ?

Some Textpattern files have been modified:
/data/16/1/15/95/1504747/user/1618844/htdocs/textpattern/lib/class.thumb.php ?

The following PHP functions (which may be necessary to run Textpattern) are disabled on your server: pcntl_exec ?

Re: Admin Image Error Message

So it really seems to be caused by an old class.thumb.php, the pcntl_exec can be neglected.
I’ve to opt out here, no clue how to handle timeout errors. Good luck!

THanks. It really does seem to be a problem with updating that one file!

Have you tried deleting the offending file, then uploading a fresh copy? It is possible that either your FTP client or some server configuration make it difficult to overwrite the existing file.

Re: Admin Image Error Message

I have tried deleting the offending file and uploading a fresh copy. It still only goes half-way and then times out.
