Make a photoblog updatable from iPhone and iPad

Hello,
I am looking forward to making a website for my photographer friend who is also a traveller. He wishes to have a website which can be used on his iPhone or iPad from which he will be uploading and posting images on the go.

As I see, for now, one can’t not upload anything from iPad, the upload button is disabled. I wish to know if this is possible using the upcoming Textpattern 4.5.

Also if it’s not supported by the upcoming txp version either, then is there any plugin to do this with current version?
What else should I consider while making this site besides making sure its responsive and easy on low memory/slow connection devices?

Thanks for your time.

Unfortunately the answer will be no. You would need an iOS application other than web browser for that. Apple doesn’t allow, nor mobile Safari support, file uploading on iOS. A website or a Textpattern’s plugin can not add uploading support to Apple’s mobile devices.

If you need uploading on iOS, you could see if you could use one of the uploading services iOS has support for natively or via an 3rd-party application. For instance by uploading the images to Flicker.

Thank you Gocom for your answer.
Well, that’s something a developer like me will not really like to know. As now I will have to make my friend understand that it’s not possible on his iDevices, even though I didn’t make those iDevices, he will not like to hear this.

I like your thought of using Flickr but I’m not sure if one can have private photo albums on Flickr, as he might want to keep his photos away from search engines.

I thought this would be an interesting project but seems like I will have to use Wordpress, which I hate, as it has an iOS app.

Thanks again.

Mobile Safari will officially support file uploads for photos and videos when iOS 6 is released next month. In the interim there are third party apps like iCab Mobile on the App Store which already support file uploads and work fine with Textpattern.

On a side note – the hive admin theme in 4.5 is fully optimized for iPad (apart from the file uploading as stated above).

You can make a Flickr account completely private.
Also you can set the account not to be indexed.

OK iOS 6 has been out for a while now. Does file upload work then?

Yes it does work now, though I haven’t made the photoblog yet.
