Re: r3822/3: New Sections panel

Yeah I know Philippe, thanks. I’m awaiting Stef to do some major changes on those prefs pages so I’ll fix it at that point (the subheadings should hopefully be taken out of table rows, and each section would become an individual table, or… we don’t use tables at all for displaying preferences – not decided which course to take as yet).

Do you think just having a close icon on modal boxes is enough, or do you think cancel buttons are ok on modals?

The way I picture those modal boxes is similar to a desktop application where you can have a window popping up to modify a set of parameters (example: resize image boxes in Photoshop). Those things always have a ‘Cancel’ button for good reasons. User input in those thingies is only committed once the user clicks ‘OK, or ‘Save’ or whatever the appropriate word is for the action. So I’d prefer to see a ‘Cancel’ button for modal boxes, instead of a ‘close’ button (that doesn’t fit really for interactive content; a close button is something for a lightbox that allows viewing a larger view of an image for example).

Re: r3822/3: New Sections panel

Philippe, that was my understanding of this too. I’ve never seen an Apple of Microsoft interaction panel without a ‘cancel’ on it, and they’ve had decades of UX studies to draw upon. It’s now an accepted (and expected) part of any UI.

If quoting support is added (e.g. crit="m"), quoted section searches could also be used for the article counts. Doesn’t sound bad, right?

Re: r3822/3: New Sections panel

Related to sections but in the Write panel Sort and Display – Could the Sections come above the Categories please. 2 reasons.

  1. Sections are essential and more important than categories almost all the time.
  2. Using redbot’s plugin for hiding categories per section means that if you enter categories first, then change section second, categories need to be entered again.

Re: r3822/3: New Sections panel

+1 for this please. On every new Textpattern site I use bot_write_tab_customize to move the Sections above the Categories.

Re: r3822/3: New Sections panel

I agree with Zero/Algaris on this – sections generally carry more importance than categories, so I’ve committed that change.
