Re: rah_bitly // Articles get Bit.ly powered short links

Another question, will the plugin generate a fresh link if a live article is saved again, but without changing its title?

According to what your site says, it shouldn’t… Can you confirm?

The URLs are, what you could call, permanent. As long as article’s URL title stays same, the short link won’t change. If the URL title is modified, or the custom field storing the URL is emptied, a new short URL is requested from Bitly.

Re: rah_bitly // Articles get Bit.ly powered short links

Rah_bitly v0.4 is out. The most notable change is Textpattern 4.5 compatibility. Changes:

  • Added: Textpattern v4.5.0 compatibility. Thank you, Robert Wetzlmayr.
  • Added: Finnish translation.
  • Fixed: A potential issue with uninstaller SQL statement’s wildcards.
  • Changed: Textpacks aren’t embedded to the code, but uses installer.
  • Removed: Unnecessary HTML escaping in one of the preference controls.
  • Removed: Functionality added in v0.2 that allowed picking new custom fields from HTTP POST data. This is for future compatibility.
  • Removed: Dropped support to file_get_contents() and allow_url_fopen. cURL is now required in favor of future compliance and move to oAuth.

Would have to be done at the MLP’s end. Rah_bitly uses Textpattern’s own native URL handling functionality to get the article’s URL, but MLP doesn’t use it to hook in its own URLs, leading to its URLs go unnoticed. Any plugin that extends Textpattern’s native URL handling, will be supported without hiccups.
