That’s good as well.

Re: New Titles?

2000 posts doesn’t mean anything by itself. Could be someone asking 2000 questions, answering 2000 questions, posting not very useful comments, etc.

Re: New Titles?

Also, a “new member” could be an expert user that has never registered on the forum, or an expert user that has lost his/her account.
I liked the “alpha”, “beta”, etc…

Re: New Titles?

@Julian – I did mention that earlier but there appears to be a good reason for using this if you check out Mary’s post.

@Ruud – True enough, but then any number of posts could be meaningless so why use any system at all other than for Moderators and Developers?

So do I. I don’t like the idea of assigning subjective ‘values’ to members very much. alpha-omega is fairly objective, since it’s only related to one’s number of posts. The introduction of ‘New Member’ is only meant to point out to new members that they are not yet allowed to do certain things, a thing that has not been clear to everyone before. So I find that a useful addition.
The only other new title is ‘Plugin Author’ which tells us that a member is er… a bit more equal than others? Only joking, they are more equal :) This title is also not a subjective value but it provides useful information.
I find the use of titles on this forum very well-considered.

Re: New Titles?

I don’t know how hard it would be as my suggestion implies to change everybody’s ‘rank’ but what if the ranks are changed so as to allow for more posts before a rank is added. In this way we will not end up with 100s of omegas.

Re: New Titles?

Plugin Authors, Moderators and Developers are out of those listing ;) we don’t like ranks ‘coz it’s always the same :P See it doesn’t change… (or will it?)

Edit: No it didn’t :)

Re: New Titles?

joking aside “Approved Advisor” is a very good title and could be used in the discretion of the forum admins.

Re: New Titles?

Kemie: Many moons ago

  • “New Member” can’t send emails to other users (among other things, for spam protection purposes).
  • “Plugin Author” can create new threads in the Plugin Author Support forum.
  • “Moderator” is someone that can moderate one or more forums.
  • “Developer” is actually one of the core Txp developers, which are also “Admin“s.
  • “Admin” is someone that can manage the entire forum.
  • Everyone else gets post-based “ranks”.

PunBB has this funny idea about not being able to show both ranks and member titles, so I’m hoping to hack in separating the two, so both are displayed.

At present, the ranks are set to:

Rank Posts
alpha 0
beta 10
gamma 35
delta 50
epsilon 75
zêta 100
êta 150
thêta 250
iota 300
kappa 350
lambda 400
mu 500
nu 600
xi 700
omicron 800
pi 900
rho 1000
sigma 1100
tau 1200
upsilon 1300
phi 1400
chi 1500
psi 1600
omega 1700

Personally, I can easily live without ranks. We only have them ‘cuz they’ve been here since the beginning, and some folks are really keen on them.
