[archived] mtp_subsections
Notice: This thread is archived, this plugin is no longer available.
**********************************************************
Hello,
I wrote a preliminary version of a plugin to add subsection functionality.
This plugin is for expanded navigational structures. Sections work exactly as they do now, except for the possibility of assigning parents to each section.
There isn’t a lot of client-side functionality right now, besides a section tree that I use for navigation functionality. I’ll probably add more tags soon.
The system is modelled after Textpattern’s native support for subcategories. I stole much of my code from TextPattern itself and Dean Allen’s dca_articles_by_category plugin.
Update 7-26
Hopefully now a couple bugs have been fixed.
Download
thanks,
Matt

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
I forgot to mention that you will also need to install an extra table to make this plugin work… you can do so under “Extensions”.

Wow! That’s awesome news! But, I’m not able to reach your site. Results in a “Cannot find Server” error.

That is strange… it still seems to work from my computer.

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
I was able to download it fine. I went to extensions to install the extra table, which was done, but then new sections I’ve just created aren’t showing up in the sub-sections tab. Any ideas where this might be going wrong?

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
Jon,
eek! Are there any subsections showing up at all? What version of TXP do you have? Are you logged in with full privileges?
If you are OK with mysql you could check for the presence and contents of txp_mtp_section.
Thanks,
Matt

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
Hi! This plugin is a great concept. I’m having some difficulty with the installation however. I’m running 4.03 and I get the following error after installing the plugin and activating it.
<code>Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /Users/jerry/Sites/sitename/textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(459) : eval()’d code on line 392
The above errors were caused by the plugin:mtp_subsection
</code>
The plugin does not appear in the extensions tab. So there is no opportunity to install the table.
I’ve deactivated all other plugins, but that doesn’t make any difference.
Any thoughts?
jerry

I don’t blame Congress. If I had $600 billion, I’d be irresponsible too.

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
Huh. I’m sorry everyone… I tested this on a fresh install of TP and on my own installation and it worked fine. I’m going to have to spend some more time working things out and see what I can come up with.

Hi Matt,
Its quite surprising. But I’m still not able to download the file. Can you e-mail the file to me? (I’ve sent you an e-mail)

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
Jon,
After thinking about it for a second, I realized that I left the table prefix off the install script. That may be the issue (depending on whether you have a table prefix!) I’ll check through things and release a patch later today.

Re: [archived] mtp_subsections
Hi Matt, thanks for the e-mail.
Well, the plugin seems to be working fine for me. Its really nice to have a section hierarchy in the backend. Its interesting and similarly I would love to see domain/section/sub-section urls being implemented.
Great effort Matt. Its definitely a good start!
Regards,
Vasanth
